**JUNE 27TH. DJ SCREW'S BIRTHDAY**

DJ Screw, born Robert Earl Davis, Jr. (27 June 1971, Bastrop, Louisiana–16 November 2000), was a central figure in the Houston rap scene. His trademark was slowing down a song when he remixed it. This process is called 'screwing' a song. Slowing down the song was supposed to recreate the effect of recreationally using codeine, also known as syrup or sizurp.
His creations are hard to come by legally, but are still available at Screwed Up Records and Tapes on Cullen St. in Houston, Texas or on the www.screweduprecords.com website.

The above paragraph was from some website we found when we typed 'June 27 DJ Screw'. It was only yesterday (late 92 or early 93) that we started hearing about Screwtapes.
A friend put me up-on-it and so I said, "Screwtapes? whats that, something u have sex to?".
Initally she said, "Nah its rap freestyle tapes with errybody on there from the Southside.."

We all know the history, but this here is the pioneer. Alot of artists needed a director and he was the innovator.

'MTV, First and foremost... VG SKILLZ is now known as V-Zilla... The name change was simple... VG was my stage name & real initials, up until like early 2000' when I crushed a show so bad I had these cats calling me a monster on the mic. I held down a 40 minute set on the solo tip, with only my DJ. Cats was like, "You like GodZilla mann, you just kept comin' back spittin Flames.." So I thought to myself, V-Zilla.

On my 2002 release E.X.H.A.L.E., the name credits read VG SKILLZ aka V-ZILLA and then on 2004's 'Lockdown Sessions', the name officially changed to V-ZILLA aka VG SKILLZ. My man, It's been a long road. I moved over 40 thousand copies of my independent releases combined and that aint even adding tha mixtapes & overseas sales.
My main producer is Moonshine from Stockholm, Sweden. He has 2 production credits on Rob-G's forthcoming album "My Thoughts, My Life-My Music".
I just locked down my deal with G-Style (Rob G's label) and my distribution w/ Sony, although Universal is throwin' dollars into the mix.
Rob-G is locking down his deal w/ Latium/Universal and is already getting radio play with LATINO STAND UP, a (BIG) GEMINI track produced by Play and Skillz that features Rob.'

MTV- 'Alright- That's whats up. so what's the SWAT clique that we've been hearing about?- who's in the SWAT?..'

V-ZILLA- 'We are all part of the S.W.A.T. Click. SWAT features artists: Rob-G, V-Zilla, 2 for 5, Dolemic, T-Gray and Vocalists Suave & Bobby Chase. Not to mention numerous -BtS- Behind the Scene players that range from in house engineers, producers & straight up business heads. The S.W.A.T. Family in general boast members from all over the city, but mainly in the Southwest as the anagram means, South West Alief Texas. For us non-southwest personell, it stands for Street Wisdom And Talent.

Fortunately, Rob-G is a stand-up cat and jumped at me with tha chance to blow up.. I'd been killin the underground circuit for a minute, touring overseas and what-not, just grinding. Needless to say the situation is about to change something drastic here shortly.

Either the staff at THE SOURCE all-ready jam this song, or someone is playing some serious head games with US. Driving on the Beltway yesterday, we see a dump truck in front of us.
We get a bad feeling & before we know it, the "hatch" on the dump-truck flies open.
We dodged the debris but we said to our woman,

He declared that most artists, especially those who do 'rap music' come into the office actin' like none of this existed before they got here.
..And that their measly 3-minute single is what created the 100-year-old American Music Industry.

He raved about dealing with Ego's and assholes with gold teeth but no health insurance.
He raved about the lack of sales, but argued that most of it ain't worth buying.
He raved about how it all services your Ego, yet offers few legitimate means for self & community improvement.

Too much emphasis on slangin' drugs and not enough emphasis on the effects of.
He asked why the majority of mainstream music emphasizes participating in illegal activities?
True that may/may-not be what's goin on, but is there a counter-culture of music that emphasizes forward motion and forward progress for those in-search-of a better/alternative lifestyle.

It may very well be, that many young-people shift towards crime because they Ignore, or don't hear-enough options to the contrary.
