Big Spring soldier killed in Baghdad/Associated Press
EL PASO — A West Texas soldier has been killed in Iraq, the Department of Defense announced today.

U.S. Army Spc. Robert J. Volker, 21, of Big Spring, was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle, the Army said.

Volker, who deployed to Iraq in October, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.

An Army spokesman at Fort Hood said today that he did not have any other details about Volker's service or his death.
